Attention Federal employees – end of the year giving has started! Our CFC # is 28025. Click here to donate through CFC.

At every play group, playground and preschool, there are moms and dads who credit the Breastfeeding Center as a lifesaving resource for them and their families. Both of us and our babies benefitted from the expertise, compassion and support we found at the Center. We are grateful…and we are convinced that the critically important services the Center offers must be available to more women and families each year.

Have you been to a class or consult at the Breastfeeding Center lately, or tried to register for a class? Then you know firsthand that we need more space!

That’s why we are honored and excited to spearhead an urgent fundraising campaign called Building a Better Nest. Our goal is to expand the space available for classes and consultations and bring these vital services to more moms, dads, and babies each year.

In order to expand, we must raise $100,000 over the next six months! We hope we can count on you for a gift of $100, $250, $500, $1000, or $5000…or whatever amount is comfortable for you. Please select from the options on the right to contribute. Your contribution to the Building a Better Nest Campaign will allow us to achieve this much overdue expansion.

From pre-natal consultations to making the transition back to work, the Breastfeeding Center and its nonprofit arm, Breastfeeding Outreach for Greater Washington, provides classes, consultations and expertise that makes a big difference in the lives of thousands of babies and families each year. Together, we can make sure more moms get what they need to get the great start our children enjoyed. Together — Let’s Build a Better Nest!

Sincerely,

Debby Cooper, President of the Board, Breastfeeding Outreach for Greater Washington

Abigail Carter, Chair of the Fundraising Committee

The mission of Breastfeeding Outreach for Greater Washington (BOGW) is to provide education and support to breastfeeding mothers at all stages of breastfeeding with an objective to find what works best for them and their family.

For almost a decade, Breastfeeding Outreach for Greater Washington has been dedicated to the support of women and their babies in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area through free and specialty classes and community outreach.

A variety of free classes, covering all stages of breastfeeding, are taught by experienced, Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultants. The classes are offered regularly, and held in our metro-accessible Downtown D.C. location. CLICK HERE FOR LOCATION AND CLASS SCHEDULE. Women and their families learn the basics of breastfeeding, get expert advice, and find extensive support throughout the full cycle of breastfeeding — from prenatal classes through weaning. Class topics include breastfeeding techniques for new mothers, strategies for returning to work while breastfeeding, breastfeeding multiples, as well as weaning.

Specialty classes, like starting solid foods, infant massage, and how to use a sling, are offered for a small fee. BOGW also provides a private nursing area and baby scale, which are made available to all our visiting mothers.

In addition, BOGW provides outreach, education, and training to other health care professionals, homeless shelters, and low-income clinics in the community. This is all accomplished through fundraising and the generous donations of mothers and their supportive families.
